Why CourierProtest?

Raising the profile of the courier industry in the UK’s fuel price protests.

The UK Courier Industry is worth around £14bn a year, and there are over 11,000 different businesses operating in this market.

Fuel, and more specificially Diesel, is vital to the courier industry, and this year has seen dramatic increases in the UK Diesel price, with increases of over 33% during 12 months.  The courier industry is being squeezed between the demands from customers for ever cheaper prices, and a rapidly increasing cost base.

The UK Haulage industry is publically involved in many protests regarding fuel prices, and the impact that it has on their business and profits.  When a large haulier goes into administration it makes the media.

However daily, many UK courier companies are going quietly out of business, with no great media attention.  Mainly because they’re not a few large companies employing hundreds of people, but the opposite, hundreds of small companies employing a few people.  However, the impact on the individuals involved is the same.

This weblog is here to raise the profile of the couriers in the this fuel price row.  And to give couriers a place to come to exchange views and ideas about how to protest in a productive and effective way.
